University Teaching
Jim has lectured at Edith Cowan University in Perth, WA for the past four years on a sessional basis. He was the unit coordinator and writer of the University Preparation Course Unit - UPC0004 Accessing and Organising Knowledge. This unit is designed to help students find and organise appropriate information from a variety of sources, including the WWW, online libraries and databases. In 2005, Jim was also asked to lecture in the IST3131 Information Policies course at ECU.
Independent Learning Technologies Consultant (2000-present)
In 2000, Jim set up the first ICT in education consultancy in Western Australia - FuturePD. During the past five years, FuturePD has been the consultancy of choice for schools and colleges wishing to develop sound pedagogical practice as they integrate their technologies. Jim is a speaker in demand at conferences and is involved in projects with schools, universities and industry. He specialises in building "hands-on, minds-on" curriculum that is ICT rich and outcomes-focused.
Head of ICT Integration - All Saints' College (2005 - 2007)
Jim was the Headof ICT Integration at All Saints' College, responsible for developing staff professional learning programs and running the Notebook program for students and staff.
Learning Technologies Consultant - Catholic Education Office (1999-2000)
In 1999, Jim was seconded from a teaching position into the Catholic Education Office, as the Lead Learning Techologies Consultant. His primary duties in this role were;
Delivery of Professional Learning Support to Middle and Secondary schools
Distribution of “Computers for Schools” program funding.
Construction of support and assessment materials.
Middle School Coordinator, Science & Technology Teacher (1995-1999)
Teacher of Science (Yr 8-12), Information Systems (Yr 11).
Responsible for the planning development and coordination of the Year 8 Learning Teams.
Special responsibility for ICT integration.
Field Applications Specialist - Promega Biotechnology (1993-1995)
Technical specialist with responsibility for clients in hospitals, forensic units, university research centres. The main duties were provision of detailed scientific advice, setting up new laboratories, trouble-shooting, delivery of small group and large group technical seminars, running training sessions and research workshops, preparation of training manuals and business strategy documentation.
